4 x EP’s | 16 x Tracks | 8 x Singles | 12 x Months
Michael McCartney emerged on the Australian music scene in 2020 as a welcome newcomer yet clearly refined, having already spent years working behind the scenes for other artists as a drummer and producer.
McCartney’s brand of ‘Vintage Pop’ is captivating and bold, striking a balance between classic song writing and reaching forward, sparing no detail.
Across the short span of both his debut EP ‘Taxi’ and now his follow up EP, McCartney’s debut single ‘Too Long’ has enjoyed rotation on Double J since it’s release in April and made his commercial radio debut in New Zealand with ‘Sweet Side of Love’. His second single ‘Taxi (With The Light On)’ is finding it’s feet in South America and the most recent single ‘Perfect Crime’ represents his first spins on US radio.
Having released 6 tracks since April, he continues on his ambitious project of 4 EP’s in just twelve months, loosely theming each EP into his slant on Soul, Rock, Pop and Acoustic. As EP #2 is set for release in late August, the series is starting to take shape.
Self-produced and recorded over the last three years, McCartney enlists some impressive collaborators as guest musicians and mix engineers including Ian Peres (Xaxier Rudd, Wolfmother), Oscar Dawson (Holy Holy, Ali Barter) and Konstantin Kersting (Mallrat, Tones & I).
As a final offering from his second EP, ‘City Limits’ (mixed by Kersting) is a bittersweet pop belter. Written about his experience working in Mental Health, it’s about how our cities feel limitless to some at the expense of those who feel it’s limits.
His second EP ‘Sweet Side Of Love’ is out everywhere August 27th.
